Using Ava

Ava has expert knowledge of cloud services, specializing in Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. As an expert on the DoiT console, Ava helps you gain new insights into your cloud spend, discover more about the cloud, and optimize data across both your cloud environment and the DoiT console.

Overview

Ava is designed to provide continuous assistance across the DoiT platform.

  • Continuous availability: When you sign in to the DoiT console, Ava is automatically launched and remains persisted on the right-hand side, regardless of the feature you are using.

  • Chat Persistence: Your current chat history is maintained and remains visible as you switch between features, ensuring a continuous conversation.

  • Contextualized insights: You can generate contextualized and granular insights for specific accounts or projects without exposing data from your entire organization. See Grant Ava access to your AWS accounts and Grant Ava access to your GCP projects.

  • Slack: If you use the DoiT app for Slack, you can chat with Ava directly in Slack without opening the console.

Display size

Ava's display automatically adjusts its size to provide optimal space for viewing the data and reports generated in response to your questions, maximizing the area available for continuing your work in the console.

  • Screen width limit: If your screen width is less than 1400 pixels, Ava closes automatically to maximize your working space.

  • Full-Screen: If you reopen Ava while your screen width remains 1400 pixels or less, Ava automatically opens in full screen mode.

You can manually launch full screen mode by selecting the full screen icon (

). Once in full screen, you can select the close chat history icon () to maximize the space available for asking questions.

You can resize Ava's window or close Ava completely, as necessary. To reopen Ava, select the Ava icon (

) from the top navigation bar or bottom right-hand corner.

Note

Ava's answers may be inaccurate and should be verified.

Rate limits

To ensure a reliable experience for all users, Ava limits the number of questions you can send within a short time window. Questions sent through other Ava-powered features, such as CloudFlow, also count toward this limit. If you reach this limit, Ava displays a message asking you to wait a moment before trying again. You can select Ask again to retry your question after a brief pause.

  1. Sign in to the DoiT console.

  2. Type a question in the text field and press Enter, or choose one of the proposed questions.

While Ava processes your question, a thinking timeline appears in the chat. The timeline shows a step-by-step list of the tools and data sources being used, alongside inline commentary explainining what Ava has found so far.

  3. Once Ava finishes generating its response, the timeline collapses into a Thought header. Select the header to expand it and review the full list of steps and commentary from that response.

The thinking timeline is saved with your conversation history. When you revisit a past conversation, you can expand Thought on any previous response to review the steps Ava took.

  4. Once Ava's answer is ready, you can copy the answer or ask a follow-up question.

Give us feedbacks

Use the thumbs up (

) and thumbs down () icons to give us feedback about whether Ava has been helpful.

Clarifying questions

When Ava needs additional context, Ava may ask you one or more clarifying questions before responding.

Note

Clarifying questions are only available in the DoiT console. If you use Ava in Slack, Ava asks follow-up questions as plain text messages instead.

Answering clarifying questions

Depending on the question, you can choose one or more options from the list.

An Other field is available on every question, allowing you to type a custom answer if none of the provided options apply.

To skip a question, select Skip this and Ava proceeds. If there are remaining questions, Ava advances to the next one.

When Ava asks more than one question, Ava shows your progress. Use Next to advance to the next question and Back to return to a previous question and change your answer.

When you have answered all questions (or reached the last question), select Submit to send your answers. Ava uses your responses as additional context and continues generating an answer.

If you navigate away from the conversation while a clarifying question is active, the request is cancelled and Ava continues without the additional context.

Viewing submitted answers

After you submit your answers, a summary card showing each question and the answers you selected appears in your conversation history. The summary is preserved in the conversation history.
