PerfectScale for Commitments

DoiT's PerfectScale for Commitments introduces a commitment management feature designed to help you evaluate your current commitments, plan new commitments, automate the commitment purchasing process, and optimize cloud costs.

Core features

PerfectScale for Commitments provides a complete suite of tools to manage the entire commitment lifecycle:

  • Unified visibility: View all your existing commitments and their associated savings across all accounts in one place.

  • Intelligent recommendations: Generate optimal purchase recommendations for supported commitment types, based on your risk tolerance, existing commitments, term preferences, and payment options.

  • Laddered purchases (opt-in): Automatically purchase incremental commitments using laddering, buying smaller amounts over time to reduce the risk of over-commitment and adjusting the commitment to actual usage. Purchases are typically scheduled within the first 20 days of the month, giving you a window to review and cancel before execution.

  • Purchase and approval notifications (optional): Get notified when purchases need approval and each time PerfectScale completes a commitment purchase.

  • Simulation and forecasting: Simulate the impact of new Savings Plans against your historical usage to predict savings.

  • Validation: Verify recommendations against your cloud provider's native recommendations (where available) and manual checks before purchasing.

  • Continuous optimization: The system continuously reassesses your environment, ensuring your coverage adapts as your infrastructure evolves.

Supported commitment types and scope

PerfectScale for Commitments gives you visibility into all existing commitment types. For AWS, this includes Reserved Instances (RI), customer-purchased Savings Plans (SP), and Flexsave for Compute SPs.

The recommendations algorithm targets eligible commitment types (like Compute and Database SPs), taking into account your existing customer-purchased and Flexsave for Compute SPs. Non-eligible commitment types (like EC2 Instances, SageMaker SPs, Reserved Instances) are excluded from recommendations.

  • Visibility and analysis: All commitments for AWS, including Compute SPs, Database SPs, RI, and Flexsave for Compute SPs.

  • Recommendations, laddering, and auto-purchase: For AWS, Compute and Database SPs.

Commitment ownership

PerfectScale for Commitments purchases commitments in the cloud provider account you've set as the Commitments purchasing account. Those commitments are owned by your organization, billed to your payer account, and are not DoiT-owned commitments.

Commitment term and service period

PerfectScale for Commitments purchases commitments with a 1-year or 3-year commitment term, based on your settings. Each commitment remains active in the cloud provider account for its full commitment term. Plans purchased late in your DoiT service period, for example, a 3-year plan near the end of your agreement, can stay active and billable in your account after your PerfectScale for Commitments service ends.

FAQ

How does it differ from Flexsave?

PerfectScale for Commitments is DoiT's customer-owned commitments offering alongside Flexsave for Compute. Flexsave delivers managed savings with minimal operational work, while PerfectScale for Commitments lets you optimize your own Savings Plans strategy using a set of advanced FinOps tools that offer more control, visibility, and automation options.

Flexsave applies Savings Plans from DoiT's inventory, so DoiT holds the commitments and carries unused commitment risk. PerfectScale for Commitments purchases commitments in your cloud provider account(s), so you own the commitments and your organization carries unused commitment risk.
