Monitor cost anomalies

You can enable anomaly detection for a group of resources defined by a custom single-rule allocation directly from the Allocations screen.

Note

Anomaly detection for custom allocations monitors billing data at the SKU level. It doesn't cover service-level detection or real-time usage data.

Required permissions

  • Cloud Analytics User, Allocations Admin

Enable monitoring

To enable monitoring for cost anomalies:

  1. Navigate to the main Allocations screen.

  2. Locate the single-rule allocation of interest.

  3. Select the kebab menu (â‹®) at the rightmost end of the allocation entry.

  4. Select Anomaly detection.

  5. Use the toggle button to enable or disable the monitor for cost anomalies.

Once enabled, anomaly detection monitors billing data within the scope defined by the allocation rule, in addition to your existing organization-wide monitoring. This allows you to detect spikes for one part of usage (for example a label like team:platform), even when total spend for the SKU is steady.

Anomalies appear on the Cost anomalies screen and in the cost anomalies widget. You can route cost anomaly notifications from different allocations to separate channels. To get notifications for this allocation, add it in your notification settings.
