Metrics and dimensions

This page lists the metrics, dimensions, and labels specific to DoiT PartnerOps.

Metrics​

Basic metrics​

  • Billed Cost: Commonly used in cash-basis accounting, this is the charge you're billed by your immediate upstream tenant. For example, if you're an end customer, this is the cost your reseller charges.

  • Usage: For granular analysis of resource consumption. See Usage.

Extended metrics​

  • Resold Cost (Distributor and reseller only): This is the charge you bill your immediate downstream tenants. Also known as MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price), it is the amount a distributor charges a reseller or a reseller charges an end customer.

  • Margin (Distributor and reseller only): Gross margin. (Margin = Resold Cost βˆ’ Billed Cost)

  • List Cost: The public AWS on-demand cost.

Dimensions​

Dimensions are grouped into multiple sections.

  • Standard: A subset of FOCUS dimensions.

  • Distributor, Reseller: Dimensions specific to distributors and resellers for revenue management.

  • Allocations: All available allocations, including Allocation rule, that you can use to distribute the data collected for a particular metric.

  • Date/Time: Related to the report's Time Interval setting. When creating a new report, the Year, Month, and Day dimensions are added automatically.

Standard (FOCUS)​

Standard dimensions in reports for AWS billing data are FOCUS dimensions. Note that the dimensions available vary with the user's tier.

  • Availability Zone: (maps to DoiT Cloud Intelligence dimension Zone) Identifies a physically separated and isolated area within a Region.

  • Billing Currency (End customer only): Identifies the currency that a charge for resources or services was billed in

  • Billing Period Start (End customer only): The inclusive start bound of a billing period.

  • Charge Category: (maps to DoiT Cloud Intelligence dimension Cost Type) The highest-level classification of a charge based on how it is billed.

  • Charge Description: A summary of the charge's purpose and price. For AWS it comes from aws/item_desc.

  • Consumed Unit: (maps to DoiT Cloud Intelligence dimension Unit) A measurement unit indicating how the usage of a metered SKU is measured.

  • Host Provider Name: The cloud provider from whom you purchased a marketplace offering that runs on your cloud infrastructure. For example, AWS.

  • Invoice ID (End customer only): Identifies an invoice in the corresponding billing period for a given billing account.

  • Invoice Issuer Name (End customer only): Name of the entity that issues payable invoices for the resources or services consumed.

  • Provider: An entity that makes the resources or services available for purchase. DoiT also uses this dimension for data providers.

  • Publisher: The entity that provides the purchased resources or services. For an end customer, the publisher is the reseller; for a reseller, the publisher is the distributor; and for a distributor, the publisher is the cloud provider.

  • Region ID: (maps to DoiT Cloud Intelligence dimension Region) A provider-assigned identifier for an isolated geographic area where a resource is provisioned or a service is provided. Examples: us-east-1, ca-central-1

  • Region Name (End customer only): A provider-assigned display name for an isolated geographic area where a resource is provisioned or a service is provided. Examples: US East (N. Virginia), Canada (Central)

  • Resource ID (Reseller and end customer): (maps to DoiT Cloud Intelligence dimension Resource) Identifies the resource that generats usage. For example, AWS EC2 instance ID.

  • Service Category: (derived from the service description of DoiT Cloud Intelligence dimension Service) The high-level classification of a service that can be broken down into SKUs.

  • Service Name: (derived from the service name of DoiT Cloud Intelligence dimension Service) A display name for the service that can be purchased.

  • Service Provider Name: A service vendor from whom you purchased a marketplace offering that runs on your cloud infrastructure. For example, a Databricks marketplace service that runs on AWS infrastructure.

  • SKU Meter: (maps to DoiT Cloud Intelligence dimension SKU) A description of the resource type that is metered or measured by a particular SKU.

  • SKU Price ID (End customer only): (maps to DoiT Cloud Intelligence dimension SKU ID) Identifies a specific SKU Price associated with a resource or service used or purchased.

  • Sub Account ID: (maps to DoiT Cloud Intelligence dimension Project/Account ID) A provider-assigned identifier assigned to a grouping construct.

  • Sub Account Name (End customer only): (maps to DoiT Cloud Intelligence dimension Project/Account name) A display name assigned to a sub account.

Distributor, Reseller​

  • Billing Rule Name: Name of the applied billing rule.

  • Created by (Reseller only)

  • Custom Line Item Name: Name of the applied custom line item as defined in the contract.

  • Customer Domain: Primary domain of the end customer.

  • Customer ID: ID of the end customer in the DoiT platform.

  • Customer Name: Name of the end customer.

  • Pricebook Rule: Name of the applied price book rule.

  • Reseller Domain (Distributor only): Primary domain of the reseller.

  • Reseller ID (Distributor only): ID of the reseller in the DoiT platform.

  • Reseller Name (Distributor only): Name of the reseller.

  • Reserved Instance: Boolean (True/False). Indicates whether the usage is covered by RIs.

  • Savings Plan Covered: Boolean (True/False). Indicates whether the usage is covered by SPs.

  • Vendor Contract ID: ID of the contract.

  • Vendor Contract Version: Version of the contract in use.

Tags (End customer only)​

The Tags section supports the following AWS labels for end customers:

  • aws/pricebook_include_credits: A boolean value that indicates whether the current rule was set to include credits.

  • aws/pricebook_rate: PPU (Price Per Unit) or %.

  • aws/pricebook_rule_name: Name of the rule defined in a price book.

  • aws/custom_line_item_name: Name of the applied custom line item. {index} is used to distinguish stacked rules.

  • aws/invoice_id: Dummy value for split lines and fixed charge lines.

  • aws/invoice_entity: Invoice entity.

  • aws/item_desc: Name of the applied rule. Valid only for split line items.
